Victoria, BC - David Benjamin Read passed away on Sunday, May 31st at his home in Victoria, BC. He was deeply loved and will be missed by friends, family, his sons Timothy and Kristopher, and Debbie, his wife of over 48 years. David was very close to the Toronchuk family, who embraced him as a son.

While he spent his retirement enjoying Vancouver Island, David held a love for Alberta, and cherished fond memories of his formative years on Lake of the Woods in Kenora, Ontario. Professionally, David was a brilliant and dedicated leader in the oil and gas industry, spanning a distinguished 40-year career with Texaco, Shell, and Suncor before retiring in 2008. David's career was one of lifelong passion, relationships, and teamwork; he made his mark with lasting contributions to safety, emergency response, and even legislation.

Outside the office, David showed his love by being a lifelong builder, creator, and provider. He poured his energy into yards, homes, cabins, gardens, decks, playgrounds, and cooking for those he cared about. As proud as David was of the things he built with his hands, he was more proud of the family he built with his heart. David beamed with pride for the artistic, school, and career achievements of his wife and sons. He held a soft spot for nature and for animals, and he loved the outdoors. He truly appreciated the simple, beautiful things in life like music, motorcycles, or being out on the water.
