Vancouver, BC - After living a wonderful life, we announce, the peaceful passing of Derek Victor Allan, "Vic," on May 16, 2026, at the age of 93. While we are deeply saddened, it is impossible not to recognize what a remarkable way to leave this world: fully loved, mentally sharp, surrounded by family, and having lived a life rich with purpose, friendship and love. Vic attended Shawnigan Lake School before graduating from the University of British Columbia in 1960 with a BCom & LL. B. Later forming the law firm Allan & Lougheed with partner, William Lougheed. After retirement, Vic did pro bono legal work on the Sunshine Coast until deteriorating eyesight and hearing made it impossible to continue. Predeceased by his brother Anthony Jock Kennington Allan and survived by his wife of 67 years Jean (Haughan); daughters, Hilary, Sara (DesBrisay), son-in-law Rob, and grandchildren Sydney, Crosbie and Jordan, all of whom knew him lovingly as "Grandy." Vic was a true gentleman, but also quietly competitive. He loved his Shawnigan days, especially rugby and baseball. He was an avid tennis player and golfer at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club serving as President in 1984. He was also an upstanding member of The Vancouver Club. He loved fishing, old cars, tractors, and especially sharing Middlepoint-designed by his brother-in-law, Gerry Sager-with its spectacular gardens overlooking the Strait of Georgia. Vic will be remembered as a man of integrity and kindness who approached life with optimism, humour, curiosity and grace.

A remembrance of Vic's life will be held Sunday, August 9th, when family and friends can raise a glass in his honour.
