John Joseph Coccioloni Obituary

Victoria, British Columbia - With deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of John Coccioloni on March 19, 2026 surrounded by family and friends. After facing Parkinson's disease with courage and grace, John made the personal choice to end his journey through Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), leaving this world on his own terms. Born in Coleman Alberta, John was a natural athlete whose energy and enthusiasm lit up the field, court, and slope. Whether swinging a bat on the baseball diamond, serving an ace on the tennis court, perfecting a golf swing, or carving fresh tracks on snowy mountains, John played not just to win, but to connect, inspire, and share joy. John inspired and taught his much-loved partner Carole to ski, play tennis, racquetball and to golf, for which she is forever grateful. John came to Victoria BC as a member of the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in the 1970's. During his first snowy winter back in Coleman when he got out of the Army, John decided that Victoria was where he wanted to be, so he and his good friend Greg packed up, and he returned to Victoria. Friends, workmates and teammates will remember John's sportsmanship, quick wit, and unwavering encouragement for others. John was a glazier by trade working in Victoria at many local glass shops. John is survived by his partner Carole, and in-laws Wayne and Debbie Shave, Greg and Laurel Shave, Barry and Goolita Shave, Alanna and Rob Wood, Darlene and Cope Witt, many nephews and nieces and many cousins in Alberta. John was predeceased by his parents Tony and Helen Coccioloni.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate healthcare providers and MAID team who supported John with dignity and respect. Many thanks to Doctor Stephanie Mancini and team and to Doctor Mai-Ling Greschner and Darlene of the Parkinson's Movement Clinic for all of the support throughout this journey.

A celebration of life will be held on June 13, 2026, 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Trafalgar/Pro Patria Legion Branch 292 (411 Gorge Rd E, Victoria, BC) where we will share stories, laughter, and memories of a remarkable person who lived fully and left peacefully. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Wellness Project (202 - 2680 Blanshard St, Victoria, BC) which is a program meaningful and so beneficial. https://parkinsonwellness.ca/donate
